Calculate exactly how many rolls of wallpaper you need. Accounts for pattern repeat and door/window deductions.
Wallpaper calculation is more complex than paint because patterns must match at the seams. A 12" pattern repeat means each strip may waste up to 12" of paper.
The formula: (Room Perimeter ร Wall Height โ Openings) รท Roll Coverage ร Pattern Waste Factor = Rolls Needed.
Standard (US): 21" ร 33 ft = 56 sq ft per roll. Usually covers ~30โ35 sq ft of wall (due to matching waste).
European: 20.5" ร 33 ft = 36 sq ft per roll. Covers ~20โ25 sq ft of wall.
Double Roll: 27" ร 33 ft = 72 sq ft. Covers ~40โ50 sq ft of wall.
A 10ร10 ft room (400 sq ft wall area) needs approximately 4-5 double rolls (European size) or 8-10 single rolls (US size). Our calculator gives exact estimates based on your wall dimensions.
Pattern repeat is the vertical distance before the wallpaper design repeats. Larger repeats (18-24โณ) need more paper because you must match the pattern at seams. Our calculator automatically adds more rolls for larger repeats.
Yes, check "Include doors & windows" in our calculator. It subtracts their area from total wall area. However, add 1 extra roll for complex rooms with many openings.
Buy 1-2 extra rolls (keep them unopened). Wallpaper batches can vary slightly in color. If you need more later, the new batch might not match perfectly.
Not recommended. Old wallpaper may bubble, peel, or show seams through new paper. Strip old paper first, then prime walls for best results. Some vinyl wallpapers can be painted over instead.
